Pebble Beach Pro Am

Sorry it has been a while.  Unfortunately my job and my graduate studies have demanded more of my time.

Today started the Pebble Beach Pro Am.  The celebrities get to join the best of the PGA Tour at the golf courses on the Monetary Peninsula.  The weather this weeks looks like it is going to be cool and a little wet.  Time to get the sweaters and rain gear ready.

What I look forward to the most of this weekend event is Bill Murray.  His outfits are anything but golf.  However, it is the perfect time to step out of the box.  The best person to pull of the theatrical outfits is Bill Murray.  People look forward to Murray's antics and outfits every year.  Each year he needs to top the year before.  Plus Bill Murray has a strong connection to golf.  Murray grew up around a golf course, and was a caddy in high school to make money to support his schooling.  Murray is the lovable assistant greenskeeper, Carl Spackler, who is assigned to get rid of the course's gopher problem. In sport that can be stuffy and pompous, Murray brings in a little comedy to the tournament.

Murray kept it calm today.  The most notable feature was his crazy facial hair.  Murray choose the sweater vest over a button shirt with a conductor type cap.  Murray seems to be channeling some Sam Snead or Jimmy Demaret from the good ol' days of the Pebble Beach Clambake when Bing Crosby hosted the event.

A Green Day

I have to give a virtual high five to all the golfers at the Waste Management Phoenix Open who wore green on Saturday.  Fans and players were encouraged to wear green to support the "green/eco-senesitive" efforts of the tournament.  I have to say KUDOS Waste Management Phoenix open.  I love the idea of getting the players and fan a like to participate in a "green out" that will help bring attention to a great initiative.  The Phoenix Open is a little over the top with the 16th hole and the stadium style seating, and the extreme crowds on the course.  This year is seeing the crazy shenanigans of the caddie races to the green.  So having a green day fits perfectly into the party fun time of the tournament.

I have to love Padraig Harrington's outfit.  Plus you have to love a guy from Ireland who decides to try out American Football on the 16th hole.  Green will never look bad on a Irishman.  Paddy loves his stripes and continues to rock the stripes whenever possible.  Paddy looked good with the navy blue pants that matched the thin blue strip of his polo.  Harrington is a player who you always find yourself routing, and after a couple of rough years it is nice to see Harrington on top of the leader board.  Harrington has not be a winner on the PGA or European Tour since winning the 2008 PGA Championship.  Harrington kicked Spalding footballs into the crowd on the 16th hole in honor of the official football of the Superbowl and one of Paddy's sponsors.

Rickie, Rickie, Rickie

Friday Waste Management Phoenix Open
 From: www.sports.yahoo.com

You cannot talk about golf clothes and not at some point talk about Rickie Fowler. Unfortunately, Rickie will not be seeing the golf course this weekend at the Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale.  Rickie, I don't think you will be missing much.  The TPC Scottsdale is an easy course that relies on the ridiculousness of the par-3 16th.

Anyway back to Rickie's clothes.  Rickie did look great on the course today.  Rickie work a white ensemble with blue and yellow ombre stripe pattern on the shirt.  The coloring is calm for Rickie.  If you didn't know already, Rickie is sponsored by Puma, and loves bright colors.  While Tiger has black and red on Sunday, Rickie has orange.  Head to toe, orange.
Sunday Orange from: sports.yahoo.com
Rickie is not afraid of color.  If you did not know that Rickie was a Sunday orange type of guy, the look could take your breath away.  I think the all orange is a little too much but it is perfect for Rickie Fowler.  He is young, energetic, loves motocross, athletic, good look, and I can go on and on.  Trying to stand out and bring a fresh young spin to golf makes Rickie a perfect fit to the all orange.  Plus I like that the orange means something.  He wears the orange in honor of his college: Oklahoma State.  I get it.  I love Penn State.  I wear blue and white a lot.  My school's colors are better but whatever ;).  Also, a little in the honor of the hipster, skater/motocross style, Rickie's clothes are a little what I call baggier than others.  Rory McIlroy goes for the tighter shirts to show his muscles while Rickie does his thing to look cool.  Both offer a young and upcoming style for golf.  It is nice to see the young bloods adding to the game in so many ways.

Puma's men line offers clothes, shoes, and accessories.  Polos will typically cost between $60 and $75, shorts/pants between $65 and $95.  The golf line also offers several 1/4 zip long sleeve pullovers that go for $75 or $90. Men's pants/shorts and polos come in every color I could ever image.  The pants/shorts come in plaids, stripes, and colors from white to cabaret?
Puma Tech Pants, Color: Cabaret
The shirts are also come in solids: white, pink, orange, blue, and every other color in between.  The shirts also have strips and patterns.  I am intrigued by the argyle pattern shirt.  Not sure if I want to love it or hate it.  You decide...
Puma Diamond Duo-Swing Golf Polo
The golf shoes range in colors.  The signature Puma stripe is featured in all the shoes.  The color of the stripes and the main part can contrast drastically or be very subtle.  The styles are the classic or sneaker.  The classic golf shoe features the signature Puma stripe.  The sneaker is shoe is what I call funky chunky sneaker and has a solid stripe.  I like the classic style because I am old soul.  I am not a fan of the chunky sneaker.  Keep the chunky sneaker at the motocross park.  Puma golf shoes are $100 except for AMP Cell Fusion AMP Sport Wide Golf Shoes which go for the low low price of $200.  The Fusion are Rickie Fowler's tour shoes for 2013, and are said to be "spiffy-looking."
