Abu Dhabi Winner

Jamie Donaldson was able to overcome a two shot deficit, and three putt bogey on the 18th for a one shot win over Justin Rose and Thorbjørn Olesen.  Both Olesen and Rose had a chance at birdie on 18 to force a playoff but Olesen's slid by and Rose's lipped out.  The win in Abu Dhabi is Donaldson's second European Tour win.

Before we look at the winner's fashion choices for the week, we have to examine Rose's Sunday apparel.

This could be one of the best outfits of the week but it fails miserably because of the pants.  First the good news: the shirt.  Block coloring is popular and in.  Rose's Ashbury polo shirt is a great example of block coloring.  I like that Rose took a popular fashion trend and brought it to the golf course.  The block coloring has great contrasts with the fuchsia top color with the gray/brown bottom.  The white stripe in the middle connects the two colors strongly.  Also, the white connects the white embroidery of the sponsors.  However, the pants are all wrong.  It is too much gray/brown.  Plus the pants do not match the gray/brown of the shirt.  I wish he chose a white pant.  The white is so minimal in the shirt that a white pant would connect the shirt with the pant.  Also, a white pant would allow for the other colors to stand out.

Now time to look at the winner: Jamie Donaldson

This week Donaldson's go to look was the white pant.  White in the desert is a good chose, plus white can do with everything.  The first three rounds Donaldson went with the typical cut golf polo.  He also did not shy way from color.  The color choice for the shirts was strong.  Green seems to be popular choice this year, which Donaldson sported Saturday.  I have been seeing a lot of bright greens so far this year and we are only three weeks into the season.   I like Donaldson's green because it is bright but not too bright to hurt my eyes.  My favorite shirt of Donaldson's week is the Sunday zip up.  The zipper adds a modern twist to the classic golf polo.  Donaldson is able to keep the classic golf look but bring it up to date with a simple zipper.  The Sunday look shows golf clothes do not need a lot of bells and whistles to be in style and look good.

Like the 2012 season, the 2013 is shaping up to be a season with a lot of color.  The 80s style neon colors is hanging on.  I like the unique bright colors but I do not need a whole outfit of bright colors.  I think the colors should be seen in one statement piece, preferably the shirt.  I do not like overly bright color in pants because that is a lot of fabric with a lot of color.  In addition, bright color pants only work on certain body types: athletic and slimmer hips.  The neon pants can be just a whole lot of trouble. When adding neon/bright color I suggest subtle stripes (you can do thin or thick stripe), block coloring, or a unique geometrical pattern.  Sometimes players go overboard with color.  Ricky Fowler is one who sometimes goes to far.
